About Coach Chandler
October 22, 1934 - March 15, 2004
Hilton
C. Chandler Jr. worked in three high schools as head basketball
coach. The first was Childress High School, Wynne, AR, the
second was Moro High School, Moro, AR and the third was
Carver High School, Lonoke, AR.
During his eight years of high school
coaching, he won six district tournament championships and
five regional tournament championships.
Over the next 12 years, he spent
his career coaching in North Little Rock Public School District.
The schools that he coached at were Poplar Street Junior
High School, Central Middle School and Rose City Junior
High School. His record in the North Little Rock School
District was five All-City Tournaments, Four Invitational
Tournaments Championships and One Regional Tournament Championship.
Coach Chandler’s public school
record was an impressive 309 wins and 72 losses.
After
retiring from the North Little Rock Public School District,
Coach started his collegiate coaching career in 1988 at
Philander Smith College as the head coach of Women’s
Athletics.
During his thirteen years, he won
four Intercollegiate Atletics Conference Championships,
three Intercollegiate Tournament Championships, received
Coach of the Year honors three times, National Small College
Athletic Association Championship, and the Small Black College/University
National Basketball Championship.
